Salt Lake City… What did you do to the airlines?!?

Hi all,
Yeah, it’s me… It’s been awhile. Been busy at work and it’s been consuming all my time. Ever have one of those projects that just never ends??? No matter what we do, there always seems to be pitfall waiting or us. Bad estimates on work efforts, unforeseen problems that require calls to the manufacturer, different interpretations of the design doc. You name it, it seems like we’ve run into it.
Anyway, enough about that. There’s lots of other stuff to complain about…
Politics, the economy, oil prices, or my favorite topic… the airlines.
There’s all sorts of stuff going on with them. Apparently, they are getting very sensitive. To the folks in Salt Lake City, what did you do or say to piss them off?
It used to be that you could fly from South Florida to Salt Lake direct. There were quite a few airlines that could get you out there. From there you could hop a puddle jumper or small jet and make it to a variety of ski slopes and other outdoor recreation areas. Not any more.
I was just looking for flights for a few trips that we wanted to take and I couldn’t find anything. I went out to March of next year and there was nothing. No one flies from south Florida to Salt Lake anymore. Occasionally, there is one Frontier airline flight. But, the schedule is crazy.
Now you have to go through Atlanta, Houston, and other hubs. That adds another few hours to the total flight time. I used to be able to get out to Bozeman/Big Sky Montana by 12:30 in the afternoon. 2:30 if we took a slightly later flight. Now we’re looking at 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
It’s crazy. With the ski season coming up, I can’t believe they’re not continuing the direct flights out west. The flights were usually mostly full.
Guess it’s part of the changing times… More on this tomorrow. It’s late and I’m trying to watch something in Chinese. The rewind button on the Tivo is getting quite a workout trying to keep up with the subtitles.
Until tomorrow…
R
