Just talking out loud…

Welcome to Winder, Ohio…

Dropping my wife off at the airport this morning reminded us of a story.  My wife practices Yoga.  The place she takes her classes has an annual retreat that they go on to practice their mystical yoga ways, eat nothing but plants and veggies,  and I’m pretty sure that there’s some chanting and meditating going on.

The retreat is in the Bahamas, which for us is an easy 50 minute flight.  You spend more time sitting in the airport and going through security than you do on the plane.

Last year when I dropped her off (no, I don’t go.  She veggies, I meat.  I also watch all those  movies she won’t watch) the sky cap came up to the car and asked us where we were going.  Eileen said the Bahamas.  The next thing we here is “Winder, Ohio?”  Eileen responds “I’m going to the Bahamas.”  The Skycap acknowledges her and then says “Winder, Ohio?”

After a few seconds of processing what’s going on, I finally realize what he’s saying – Window or aisle? LOL!!!  We all laughed a little.  What makes this funnier is that neither of us ever hear each other as it is.  We’ve even gone to the Audiologist together to have our ears checked because we thought it was a problem.  He said overall we were fine.  I guess we’ve just been married long enough to tune each other out… :-)

Mean Cat FishI spent a little time rummaging around the net today and I came across this on the I Am Bored website. Looks like they had a Photoshopped Animals contest at some point.  A laughed my a** off when I saw this one.

Reminds me of our cat at feeding time… :-)   Cudo’s to the entrants of that contest; there’s some great stuff out there.

The latest development updates on Ron 3.0

Filed under: Career, Career Change, Change, Family, Life Changes, Life in general, People — Ron @ 12:00 am

So, its been a few weeks (a month?) since I last talked about the Ron 3.0 project.  There hasn’t been a whole lot to talk about yet.  I’ve been pondering thoughts of greatness, well at least pondering thoughts, looking at the finances, talking with the wife, and trying to weigh all of the options.

Tomorrow I have a meeting with the VP of our IT department about a position that has been open for a little while.  I’ll talk to him and see how things pan out.  If it works out, great.  If not, I’m really not too concerned. Even after a month or so of thinking about it, I’m still OK about leaving if I don’t find anything else in the company.  I’ve gotten past it.  It’s not the same company that it was when there were just 30 – 40 of us when I first started back in ‘93.  Now that there’s nearly 4,000 worldwide it’s a very different place.  A lot of that original energy and spirit is gone.

Also, there are so many other personal projects my wife and I would like to work on, I can definitely keep myself busy for quite awhile.  I can also see about putting some time in at the gym.  But, we’ll see how things go.  I’m keeping an open mind.

It’s funny.  The biggest thing I’m going to miss if I do decide to leave is my vacation time.  Being with the company for nearly 14 years I get 30 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year.  (We combine vacation and sick time into one bucket of PTO).  That’s what I’m really going to miss.  I’ve gotten used to being able to do a lot of things through out the year.  Going to a new place that only offers 10 days or what ever I can negotiate will be rather disappointing.’

Anyway, it’s late.  I’ll have another update tomorrow after the “big meeting.” :-)

A Nearly Dull Day On Jury Duty

Filed under: Helping Hand, Life in general, People — Ron @ 11:35 pm

Ambulance at Jury DutySo, I had Jury Duty on Monday.  I don’t mind getting called.  Which is a good thing as I have probably been selected to sit on 7 or 8 jury’s over the years (I’ve lost track).

Overall, it was pretty quiet and dull day.  I was called up to one of the courtrooms along with 29 others and we started going through the question and answer process.

We broke for lunch and I wandered outside around the courthouse.  As I was heading to the parking garage to drop a few things in the car, I noticed an ambulance sitting at the entrance with its lights going.  I didn’t see anyone around the ambulance.  I figured maybe they were working on someone inside.

So, I head up to the floor the car is parked on.  As I turn the corner, I hear what sounds like a conversation on a walkie talkie.  Turns out that someone passed out about two spots from where I parked.  Looked like someone in their late 60’s (?).  I hope they’re OK.

Beyond that, not much else happened.  I didn’t get picked.  But, the whole process kept everyone there until just after 6:00.  Not too bad.  I missed a lot of the traffic.
